3 ON 3 BENEFITS AND RULES

 

BENEFITS:

 

3 on 3 will surely improve your Passing, Puck Protection, Skating, Foot Speed, Mobility, Stamina/Endurance, your understanding of Positional Play and Angles with and without the puck.  Also, understanding the team concepts of hockey will improve.  This will raise every kid’s HOCKEY IQ.

 

RULES:

 

1. TEAMS

 

Each team shall consist of at least 10 players and 1 goalie.

  • Each team will ice 3 players and a goalie per shift.

  • Each player will be required to wear approved equipment including neck guards.

  • Each team will be balanced with skill and size.  (Some changes may be made after the first skate).

  • Each team will get 2 - 3 on 3 games and 1 skills and drills per ice time.  

  • Teams change ends after each period.

 

2. GAME RULES

 

All 3 on 3 and 1 on 1 games are NON CHECKING.  Some incidental contact and battling will be allowed depending on the age and skill of the group.

  • 3 on 3 will be played on approximately 2/3 of the ice and skills and drills on the remaining 1/3.

  • There will be no offsides or icing.

  • There will be no whistles or stoppages of play throughout the period.  There will be a face off at the start of each period only.

  • Each period will be a minimum of 15 minutes.  More if time allows.

  • Penalties will be called and awarded as penalty shots at the end of the game.

  • All games are running time with a change buzzer every minute.  PLAYERS MUST RELEASE PUCK IMMEDIATELY!  No passing, shooting, or dumping is allowed.  Doing so will result in a penalty and subsequent penalty shot for the opposing team.

  • A MINIMUM of 2 PASSES must be made before a shot can be taken on net.  The 3 on 3 instructor will determine if a pass is good or not.

  • If a goal is scored or a save made, the OFFENSIVE 3 PLAYERS must retreat to the safety zone until the puck is brought forward.  (The safety zone is usually just past the blue line).

  • A team may pull their goalie in the last 2 minutes of the third period only.

  • Each player on every team will receive equal ice time.

  • There will be a brief 3 minute warm up before each game


Some adjustments may be made without notice.
